Kym Whitley Gets Candid on Weight Loss Ahead of Happy Gilmore 2

July 17, 2025: Actress and comedian Kym Whitley is encouraging others to embrace patience and persistence on their health journeys — just like she did. “Please, even this hairstyle wasn’t an overnight thing,” the 63-year-old tells PEOPLE. “Everything good takes time — you have to take it one day at a time.”

Best known for her humor and heart, Whitley is set to appear in Happy Gilmore 2 alongside Adam Sandler, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and Julie Bowen. But behind the scenes, she’s also been focusing on her own well-being, crediting Zepbound — a prescription injection for weight management — as part of her transformation.

“I’ve struggled with obesity most of my adult life. I’d lose weight, gain it back, and feel stuck,” Whitley admits. After hearing about Zepbound from friends, she consulted her doctor and decided to give it a try — not to hit a number on the scale, but to feel better overall.

“It’s not about fitting into a dress,” she emphasizes. “It’s about the long-term goal.” Since adopting a healthier routine with help from the medication, Whitley is moving more, eating better, and feeling more energized.

“I’ll be honest, I’m enjoying tying my shoes,” she says with a laugh. “I love traveling again, riding my bike, and playing with my son.”

Whitley adopted her son Joshua in 2011 and says her motivation is deeply rooted in motherhood. “I started this journey so I could feel unstuck — for me and for him. Being a single parent, it’s not easy. But I make time for my son, and I make time for my health. I want to be the best mother I can be.”

Her message to others? “Get involved in your own health. Talk to your doctor. Find a path that works for you — and be patient.”
