Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s action thriller L2: Empuraan slows down in its third week, collecting ₹94 lakh on Day 15 and falling short of becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
April 12, 2025: After dominating the Mollywood box office for two weeks, L2: Empuraan has entered the slowdown phase of its theatrical journey. On Day 15 (Friday), the film brought in ₹94 lakh, slightly down from ₹98 lakh the previous day, bringing its total domestic net collection to ₹103.12 crore.
The drop in collections comes as new regional releases like Bazooka, Alappuzha Gymkhana, and Maranamass hit the screens on April 10, reducing the show count for Empuraan significantly. Despite an impressive run, the dream of surpassing the all-time highest Malayalam grosser may remain unfulfilled.

🎬 About the Film
L2: Empuraan is the much-anticipated sequel to Lucifer (2019), directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal in the iconic role of Khureshi-Ab’raam. The film blends political intrigue with mass-action set-pieces and has been lauded for its cinematic scale and gripping narrative.
🔥 Can It Still Surpass the Malayalam Record?
With ₹103.12 crore already in the bag, Empuraan is among the top Malayalam grossers ever, but it faces stiff competition from all-time leader 2018, which had breached ₹130 crore+ mark. Unless the film witnesses a surprise resurgence over the weekend, it may fall just short of creating history.
