L2 Empuraan Box Office Day 6: Mohanlal's Sequel Smashes Lucifer's Lifetime Record With ₹79 Cr India Net
April 2, 2025: Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ambitious sequel L2 Empuraan is rewriting box office records. The film, led by superstar Mohanlal, has now surpassed the lifetime domestic collection of its predecessor Lucifer in just six days.
According to early estimates from trade portal Sacnilk, the action-packed political crime thriller earned ₹9 crore on Tuesday, pushing its total India net to ₹79 crore. The global tally crossed ₹200 crore in just five days, despite the weekday slowdown and controversy over its initial version.
The film has now officially outgrossed Lucifer‘s ₹65 crore India net from 2019.

A sequel to the cult hit Lucifer, the film continues the journey of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’raam, played by Mohanlal. It explores the shadowy world of drug cartels and transnational crime syndicates. L2 Empuraan introduces new characters, including American actor Rick Yune as the antagonist leading the Shenlong Triad, and a younger version of Stephen, portrayed by Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal.
The film also stars Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Abhimanyu Singh in key roles.
The film came under fire for its portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat riots and scenes involving religious sensitivity and violence against women. After backlash, the makers agreed to 24 cuts, which included altering dialogues, removing key scenes, and renaming the villain.
Despite this, audiences have continued to throng cinemas, unaffected by the edits. The film’s runtime has been trimmed by 2 minutes and 8 seconds, but fan support remains strong.
