L2: Empuraan Day 1 Box Office: Opens With 233% Higher Collection Than Barroz, Delivers Massive ₹10.52 Cr Start!
March 27, 2025 | Kochi —
Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan has delivered a thunderous opening at the box office, already outperforming their most recent theatrical releases by a remarkable margin. The political action thriller has seen massive ticket sales and strong occupancy levels, setting it up as one of the biggest Malayalam openers of all time.
By 4 PM on Day 1, L2: Empuraan has already raked in ₹10.52 crore, with a morning occupancy of 63.3%. This is a massive jump compared to Mohanlal’s last release, Barroz, which had a 49.5% morning occupancy and earned ₹3.45 crore on its opening day.

That’s a 233% spike in opening-day earnings — a staggering leap for the superstar’s theatrical returns.
The film witnessed 172,000 tickets sold on BookMyShow between 6 AM and 4 PM on March 27, averaging 17,000 tickets sold per hour. Just a day earlier, pre-sales stood at 58,000 during the same period, reflecting a 196% surge in ticket demand overnight.

It now holds the seventh-best pre-sale record for an Indian film in 2025, and the highest ever for a Mollywood release.
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s previous release Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil earned ₹3.8 crore on Day 1 with just 32.35% morning occupancy. Empuraan has nearly tripled that figure with much stronger engagement across multiplexes and single screens alike.
With positive word-of-mouth, blockbuster advance booking (₹18+ crore gross), and an extended weekend incoming, L2: Empuraan is on course to challenge major South Indian records this week.
If the momentum continues, Empuraan could mark Mollywood’s most successful Eid season release yet.
