Mother Monster leads this year’s VMAs with 12 nominations, making her comeback performance one of the most anticipated moments of the night.
Lady Gaga is back where she belongs—on the MTV VMAs stage. The global pop icon is officially confirmed to perform at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 7, and fans are already brimming with excitement.
The announcement came on Saturday through MTV and the official VMAs social media handles, with the post reading: “There will be magic in the air at the 2025 #VMAs because @LADYGAGA IS PERFORMING! You won’t want to miss her return.”
This marks Gaga’s long-awaited comeback to the VMAs, five years after her last appearance in 2020 when she performed “Rain On Me” alongside Ariana Grande. Her electrifying stage presence has always been a highlight of the ceremony, from her unforgettable “Paparazzi” performance in 2009 to the infamous raw meat dress in 2010.
Gaga, who already holds 18 VMAs, is also the top nominee this year with 12 nods, including Video of the Year (for “Die With a Smile”), Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year for Mayhem. She leads a star-studded slate of nominees, with Bruno Mars close behind at 11 nominations and Kendrick Lamar with 10.
Joining her on stage will be Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Tate McRae, Sombr, Alex Warren, and J Balvin with DJ Snake. The night promises a blend of powerhouse performances and fresh energy.
Adding to the celebration, Mariah Carey will be honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, where she will deliver a medley of her biggest hits. The show will be hosted by LL Cool J.
For the first time ever, the 2025 MTV VMAs will air live on CBS, while also simulcasting on MTV and streaming for premium subscribers on Paramount+.
