Earlier that day, Ratan Tata’s mortal remains began their final journey to the Prayer Hall at the Worli Crematorium, attended by dignitaries such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In recognition of Tata’s contributions, the Maharashtra government declared a day of mourning.

Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, Ratan Tata was not only a prominent business leader but also a dedicated philanthropist. Serving as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012, he significantly shaped the trajectory of the Tata Group and was instrumental in the establishment of major philanthropic initiatives through the Ratan Tata Trust and the Dorabji Tata Trust. In 2008, he was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.

Tata’s legacy is also intertwined with the Lakme brand, which was owned by the Tata Group in the 1990s. Under Tata’s leadership, Lakme expanded its presence in the Indian cosmetics market, although it was sold to Hindustan Unilever in 1998. Nevertheless, Tata’s influence on the business landscape has left an enduring mark on numerous brands, including Lakme.

The Lakme Fashion Week, which began on October 9 and runs until October 13, opened its latest edition with a show by Pero, a brand founded by Aneeth Arora. Arora’s whimsical collection, inspired by the iconic character Hello Kitty, was celebrated as a reinterpretation of childhood nostalgia with a modern twist. The runway was vibrant, featuring flowing silhouettes and engaging dance performances, enhancing the experience beyond traditional fashion shows.

As the fashion gala continues, it is set to conclude with a show by renowned designer Rohit Bal on October 13, marking a significant moment in the Indian fashion calendar, all while reflecting on the influential legacy of Ratan Tata.
