Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya's Karaoke Party Sparks Outrage Online
July 4, 2025: Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi was recently seen hosting a grand summer bash in London, where two of his most talked-about guests—business tycoon Vijay Mallya and cricketer Chris Gayle—added star power and controversy in equal measure. A video from the event showing Modi and Mallya singing Frank Sinatra’s iconic hit “My Way” during a karaoke session quickly went viral, setting social media ablaze.
Sharing clips from the event on social media, Lalit Modi wrote, “I did it #myway – a few memories from my annual summer party past Sunday at my house in London.” He mentioned that the gathering was attended by 310 guests, consisting of “friends and family”, and called it an “amazing night.”
Modi expressed heartfelt appreciation for Mallya, stating, “And to Vijay Mallya for his everlasting spirit of being there for me. Hope this video does not break the internet. Controversial for sure. But that’s what I do best.”
Also spotted at the party was West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle, whom Modi referred to as the “Universe Boss.” In another post, Modi shared a picture with Gayle and wrote, “Presented me with his bat with which he scored the highest ever total by an individual person in a T20 match in 2013 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru — 175 runs in just 66 balls. What an innings that was.”
While the video was met with chuckles by some, it triggered outrage among many social media users who pointed out that both Modi and Mallya are facing legal scrutiny in India and have been labelled as “fugitives” by critics.
One user wrote, “Sad reality that all fugitives are enjoying lavish lives after looting money from the Indian public.” Another sarcastically posted, “All, please visit India.”
Despite the criticism, the video and the event have reignited conversations around high-profile individuals evading Indian law while continuing to live opulent lives abroad.
