"Let Her Have Her Hero Moment" – Scarlett Johansson Confirms She's Done with Black Widow & Marvel

The actress shuts down return rumors, saying Natasha Romanoff’s story has ended: "She saved the world. Let her go."

Washington [US], March 13: Scarlett Johansson has put an end to all speculation surrounding her return as Black Widow, confirming that she has moved on from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for good.

In a recent interview, Johansson addressed Marvel fans still hoping for Natasha Romanoff’s return despite her character's sacrificial end in Avengers: Endgame and her final appearance in the 2021 prequel Black Widow.

"They just don’t want to believe it," Johansson told People. "They're like, 'But she could come back!' Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We're going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment."

A Bittersweet Goodbye & Legal Battle with Disney

While Natasha’s story ended dramatically on-screen, Johansson’s real-life exit from Marvel wasn’t entirely smooth.

In July 2021, the actress sued Disney for breaching her contract by simultaneously releasing Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+, which allegedly affected her earnings. The legal battle ended in an undisclosed settlement between Johansson and Disney.

Despite the lawsuit, Johansson maintained a professional relationship with Marvel and even hinted at producing future projects within the MCU—just not as Black Widow.

What’s Next for Scarlett Johansson?

Since stepping away from the Marvel universe, Johansson has been actively pursuing diverse roles. Speaking about her career post-MCU, she revealed:

"I was inspired by those independent films from the mid-80s to the mid-2000s. Living Out Loud, Crossing Delancey, Moonstruck—films that had a real sense of storytelling and character depth."

Fans will soon see her on the big screen in two highly anticipated projects:

  • The Phoenician Scheme (June 6, 2025)
  • Jurassic World: Rebirth (July 2, 2025)

While her time as Black Widow is officially over, Johansson’s career is far from slowing down. And as she moves on, Marvel fans might finally have to do the same.
