“We sat on a bench at this outdoor amphitheater and [my mom] told me the whole story in the most sincere, beautiful way,” Liv, now 47, said. “I just was there with it and then we went backstage after the show.”

Until that moment, Liv had believed that musician Todd Rundgren—who had signed her birth certificate—was her biological father. Rundgren had been in a relationship with Liv’s mother, Bebe Buell, around the time of her birth and raised her as his own.

“The first wave was shock,” Liv shared. “After that concert, we went home and my mom had a chaise lounge in front of a window. I remember sitting there for what felt like three days, but it was probably three hours, and coming to this conclusion of ‘Whoa, I have two dads and all this love.’”

Despite the emotional revelation, Liv emphasized the immense affection she received from both sides of her family. While her relationship with Rundgren has grown more distant over the years, she still holds deep respect for him.

“I love him. I have brothers from him and I had a whole family with them. He took care of me like he was [my] dad,” she said. “It’s probably still very hard and painful and I don’t speak to him enough.”

Ultimately, Liv cherishes the unique and blended family she was given. “It was very weird. I felt so much love,” she said. “I was able to soak up the love that I could. I just was really excited about it because they’re all so different and so lovely.”
