Maalik Box Office Prediction: Will Maalik’s Slow Ticket Sales Stall Rajkummar Rao’s Massy Makeover at the Box Office?
July 11, 2025: After the success of Bhool Chuk Maaf, versatile actor Rajkummar Rao returns to the big screen with his upcoming action thriller Maalik, scheduled to release this Friday, July 11. While fans are eager to see Rao in a rugged, massy avatar, early indicators suggest a modest opening at the box office.
About the Film
Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, Maalik also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Manushi Chhillar in key roles. It is being distributed by Pen Marudhar. The film’s trailer, which dropped a week ago, received a positive response and showcased Rao in an intense, high-octane role reminiscent of characters from Animal and Pushpa.
Despite initial buzz, the film failed to maintain momentum. Promotional activities have remained routine and haven’t made much impact either on the ground or on social media.
Box Office Outlook
Trade analysts predict Maalik will open with a collection of ₹3 to ₹3.8 crore net on Day 1 at the Indian box office. This figure is considerably lower than Bhool Chuk Maaf, which opened at ₹7.2 crore. That’s a 47% to 58% drop in opening collections compared to Rao’s previous theatrical release.
However, the film does benefit from a relatively open playing field. While it faces minor competition from Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan and the Hollywood release Superman, neither is expected to pose a serious threat, especially in mass markets where Maalik is expected to perform better.
Final Thoughts
Maalik might not make a blockbuster entry, but all eyes will be on audience word-of-mouth and weekend trends. With Rajkummar Rao’s proven talent and a high-action backdrop, the film still has a shot at building momentum post-release.
