Maalik Box Office Day 3: Rajkummar Rao Film Sees Only 2% Growth, Weekend Total at ₹15.02 Cr

Despite buzz and a strong genre presence, Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar’s action thriller Maalik wraps its opening weekend with lukewarm box office numbers. Mixed reviews and competition from new releases dampen growth.

Mumbai, July 14, 2025:
Rajkummar Rao’s latest action thriller “Maalik” has failed to capitalize on weekend momentum, closing its opening three days with minimal growth and missing the mark set by the actor’s previous releases. Directed by Pulkit and co-starring Manushi Chhillar, the film faced fierce competition and mixed reviews, affecting its box office performance.

On Day 3 (Sunday), Maalik collected ₹5.55 crore, marking just a 2% increase over Saturday’s ₹5.45 crore. With Friday’s earnings at ₹4.02 crore, the film’s total weekend box office collection now stands at ₹15.02 crore.

Key Factors Behind Sluggish Performance

  • Mixed word-of-mouth: Reviews have been divided, with critics praising performances but criticizing the pacing and plot.
  • Stiff competition: The film competed with Sitaare Zameen Par, Maa, Metro In Dino, and Aankhon Ke Gustaakhiyan, all of which split audience attention.
  • Limited growth on Sunday, which is typically a high-performing day for theatrical releases, suggests low repeat value.

How It Compares to Rajkummar Rao’s Past Films

Maalik lags behind the actor’s recent hits in terms of opening weekend numbers:

  • Srikanth (Opening Weekend: ₹18.5 Cr)
  • Monica, O My Darling (₹16.8 Cr)
  • HIT – The First Case (₹16.2 Cr)

However, Maalik has already overtaken the lifetime earnings of several recent flops:

  • Mere Husband Ki Biwi – ₹12.25 Cr
  • The Bhootnii – ₹12.52 Cr
  • Badass Ravi Kumar – ₹13.78 Cr

Unless Maalik sees a strong weekday hold or gets a boost from word-of-mouth in smaller centers, it’s unlikely to recover enough to enter the list of top 10 Bollywood grossers of 2025. All eyes are now on its Day 4 performance (Monday) to assess long-term prospects.
