Made at a Budget of Rs. 400 Crore, Game Changer Heading To Become a Huge Box Office Disaster
January 16, 2025: Despite surpassing the lifetime gross of Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, Shankar’s Game Changer struggles to avoid heavy losses.
Renowned filmmaker Shankar Shanmughan seems to be navigating a tough phase in his career. Following the underwhelming performance of Indian 2, his latest release, Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, has also failed to meet expectations at the box office. Released during Sankranti 2025, the political action drama is heading towards a significant financial loss, further compounding Shankar’s recent struggles.
Game Changer opened globally with a lackluster ₹85 crore on its first day, falling short of the massive openings Ram Charan’s previous hits had delivered. Over the first weekend, the film managed to accumulate ₹125 crore worldwide. By day six, Game Changer crossed ₹150 crore, surpassing Indian 2’s lifetime gross collection. However, despite this milestone, the film is unlikely to recover its massive budget.
Produced by Sri Venkateswara Creations, Game Changer is projected to conclude its box office run with collections between ₹190 crore and ₹200 crore worldwide. This will result in a staggering loss of approximately ₹200 crore for the producer and distributor, making it a bigger commercial failure than Indian 2.
While Shankar’s simultaneous production of three high-budget films—Indian 2, Game Changer, and Indian 3—was a bold move, the lukewarm reception of the first two installments casts doubts on the upcoming Indian 3, expected to release in late 2025. Fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly awaiting updates on its official release date.
