The acclaimed director behind Fashion and Page 3 launches his 16th film, The Wives, promising a bold, concept-driven narrative exploring scandal, luxury, and hidden lives in the world of Bollywood star spouses.

Mumbai, July 8 – Acclaimed filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, known for his hard-hitting portrayals of society’s underbelly in films like Chandni Bar, Page 3, and Fashion, has officially begun shooting his 16th film titled The Wives. The project, which explores the secretive and glamorous world of Bollywood star spouses, went on floors Tuesday. Taking to social media, Bhandarkar expressed his excitement and called the film a “dream come true” after four years of development.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bhandarkar wrote:

“Today marks the start of my 16th film, #TheWives, an original story set in the captivating world of glamour that we have explored over the last four years. Finally bringing this concept-driven project to life is a dream come true. Your blessings and support are invaluable as we embark on this journey. Here’s to crafting something truly special.”

Alongside the announcement, the director shared images from the film’s muhurat (inaugural ceremony), including the official poster, which hints at a provocative narrative steeped in scandal and secrecy. The film is being produced under PJ Motion Pictures, marking Madhur’s second collaboration with producer Pranav Jain after their 2022 release India Lockdown.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed that The Wives features a dynamic ensemble cast, including:

  • Mouni Roy
  • Regina Cassandra
  • Rahul Bhatt
  • Saurabh Sachdeva
  • Arjan Bajwa
  • Freddy Daruwala

According to Adarsh, the film will delve “into the secret world of Bollywood star wives – a world brimming with scandal, gossip, and jaw-dropping luxury that few ever witness.”

Given Madhur Bhandarkar’s reputation for crafting compelling narratives that pull back the curtain on glamorised worlds — from the bar dancers of Chandni Bar to the fashion industry’s dark side — The Wives is expected to continue his legacy of socially conscious storytelling set against glitzy backdrops.

This announcement has already sparked excitement among fans and cinephiles, many of whom anticipate a bold, unapologetic take on the hidden lives of celebrity spouses — a subject rarely explored in mainstream Indian cinema.

The production is currently underway, and more updates regarding the film’s release and promotions are expected in the coming months.
