Mads Mikkelsen to Star in Arctic Thriller ‘Sirius’; Joins Voice Cast of Animated Film ‘North’

May 13, 2025: Acclaimed Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is set to headline the upcoming action thriller Sirius, marking the directorial debut of Oscar-winning editor Lee Smith, best known for his work on Dunkirk and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sirius is inspired by the real-life Danish Sirius Patrol, an elite special forces unit tasked with patrolling and defending Greenland’s 8,700-mile frozen coastline. The screenplay has been written by Tony Mosher, while the U.S. release will be handled by Decal, a label under Neon, which will also manage international sales at the Cannes film market.

The project is being produced by Pascal Degove and Matt Williams under Future Artists Entertainment, with Deborah Acoca serving as executive producer.

Mikkelsen’s Animated Role in “North”

In addition to Sirius, Mikkelsen has also joined the voice cast of the animated film North, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale The Snow Queen.

The story follows a young girl named Gerda, who embarks on a dangerous journey to find her missing friend Kai, encountering magical creatures and allies along the way. Unbeknownst to her, the mysterious Snow Queen and her devilish apprentice Louie are watching her every move.

Mikkelsen will voice Severin, Kai’s father—a carpenter and storyteller who builds a special sled for his son before both the sled and Kai mysteriously disappear. Described as a character who embodies “wisdom, sorrow, and timeless magic,” Severin adds emotional depth to the tale.

With Sirius showcasing Mikkelsen’s intense screen presence and North highlighting his emotional range in animation, the actor continues to diversify his portfolio across genres and mediums.
