Maharashtra Minister Demands Expert Review of Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ Before Release

Uday Samant calls for historical accuracy in the portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, warns against release without addressing concerns.

Mumbai, January 25: Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant has urged the makers of the upcoming historical drama ‘Chhaava’, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, to screen the film for experts and historians before its release. The minister emphasized the need for historical accuracy and respect in the portrayal of the legendary Maratha warrior king.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Samant expressed both optimism and caution regarding the film, directed by Laxman Utekar. While commending the effort to showcase Sambhaji Maharaj’s story, he stressed the importance of removing any potentially objectionable content that could harm the honor of the revered ruler.

Uday Samant’s Statement

In his post, Samant wrote:

“It is a matter of joy that a Hindi film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the protector of religion and freedom, is being made. Such efforts are necessary to help the world understand the history of Chhatrapati. However, concerns have been raised about some objectionable scenes in the film. Our position is that this film should not be released without first showing it to experts and knowledgeable individuals.”

He added a stern warning:

“The producers and directors of the film should take immediate action to address these issues. A further decision will be taken after watching the film; otherwise, this film will not be allowed to release.”

About ‘Chhaava’

Produced by Maddock Films, ‘Chhaava’ depicts the life and reign of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, starting from his coronation in 1681. Vicky Kaushal essays the role of the courageous Maratha ruler, while Rashmika Mandanna plays a pivotal role in the period drama.

The film aims to bring the valor and legacy of Sambhaji Maharaj to a wider audience. It is slated for a theatrical release on February 14, 2025.

Public Response and Anticipation

The announcement has generated significant buzz, with many applauding the effort to bring Maratha history to the silver screen. However, there is an equally strong call for ensuring the film remains a respectful and accurate tribute to Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy.

As the release date approaches, all eyes are on the filmmakers to address the concerns raised and ensure the film upholds the honor of its central figure.
