After an historic run at the box office, the highest-grossing Indian animated film makes its digital debut, bringing its record-breaking success to a global streaming audience.
Netflix now has Ashwin Kumar’s mythical movie Mahavatar Narsimha, which is a significant event for Indian animation. On Friday, September 19, 2025, at 12:30 PM IST, the animated movie came out on the streaming service. It had just concluded a 50-day run in theaters. You may view the movie in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
A Record-Breaking Run in Theaters
Mahavatar Narsimha came out on July 25, 2025, and despite all odds, it became the most popular animated movie in Indian history. It grossed more than ₹300 crore around the world and more than ₹249 crore in India. This made it the fourth-highest-grossing Indian movie of the year. Hombale Films made the movie, and Ashwin Kumar directed it. The fact that it is so popular suggests that there is a growing need for high-quality, local animated entertainment.
There will be seven parts to the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, and Mahavatar Narsimha is the first one. It will look at the 10 forms of Lord Vishnu. The story is about the demon ruler Hiranyakashipu and his loyal son Prahlad, as well as the heavenly forms of Varaha and Narasimha.
The ambitious franchise has a precise schedule for when the future parts will be out:
Mahavatar Parshuram: 2027
Mahavatar Raghunandan: 2029
Dwarkadhish Mahavatar: 2031
Mahavatar Gokulananda: 2033
Mahavatar Kalki Part 1: 2035
Part 2 of Mahavatar Kalki: 2037
Indian animation is entering a new and exciting phase thanks to the movie’s great success in theaters and aspirations for a cinematic universe.
