April 29, 2025: Popular Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali, widely known by his stage name Vedan, was arrested on Monday after police seized nearly six grams of ganja from his apartment in Tripunithura, near Vyttila, Kerala.
According to Circle Inspector AL Yesudas, authorities also recovered ₹9 lakh in cash from the premises. Vedan claimed the amount was an advance payment for an upcoming performance. The rapper allegedly admitted to drug use during questioning. Police confirmed that nine individuals were present in the flat at the time of the raid.

In a surprising development, the Forest Department has launched an inquiry into a chain worn by Vedan, reportedly featuring leopard teeth — a potential violation under the Wildlife Protection Act.
Vedan rose to prominence in 2020 with the release of his debut track Voice of the Voiceless, earning recognition for his socially charged lyrics and unique presence in Kerala’s hip-hop scene.
Investigations into both the narcotics and wildlife-related aspects of the case are ongoing.
