Mamta Kulkarni Performs 'Pind Daan,' Embraces Spiritual Role
Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 24: Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, known for her iconic roles in the 1990s, took a significant spiritual step as she performed ‘pind daan’ at the Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj on Friday. This ritual, deeply rooted in Hindu tradition, is performed to honor ancestors and seek their blessings.
Speaking about the event, Kulkarni said, “This was the order of Mahadev, Maha Kaali. This was the order of my Guru. They chose this day. I didn’t do anything.”
In a parallel announcement, Acharya Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhada, Laxmi Narayan, revealed that Mamta Kulkarni has been initiated into a spiritual role as Mahamandleshwar, under the name Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.
“Kinnar Akhada is going to make Mamta Kulkarni a Mahamandleshwar. She has been named Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri. As I speak, all the rituals are underway. She has been in touch with Kinnar Akhada and me for the last one and a half years,” Laxmi Narayan stated.
The Acharya also emphasized the inclusive approach of Kinnar Akhada, saying, “She is allowed to perform the character of any devotional figure if she wants as we do not prohibit anyone from performing their art.”
Mamta Kulkarni rose to fame in the 1990s with her performances in blockbuster hits such as Karan Arjun and Baazi, starring alongside Bollywood giants Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan.
However, at the peak of her career in the early 2000s, she stepped away from the glamour of Bollywood and relocated abroad, living a private life away from the public eye. Her transition to spirituality marks a profound chapter in her life, embracing a path of devotion and self-discovery.
