Directed by Raam Reddy of Thithi fame, Manoj Bajpayee’s Jugnuma explores mystery, family, and magical realism in the Himalayas. Backed by Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga, and celebrated filmmakers, the film hits theatres on September 12, 2025.

Mumbai, August 30: Indian cinema’s maverick storytellers came together on Saturday to unveil the much-anticipated trailer of Jugnuma (The Fable), starring Manoj Bajpayee. The film, directed by Raam Reddy and presented by Academy Award winner Guneet Monga Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, promises to be a cinematic experience blending mystery, magical realism, and emotional depth.

The trailer launch was made even more special with filmmakers Vetri Maaran, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Raj B. Shetty, and Nag Ashwin joining hands to support the film.

Set in the late 1980s, Jugnuma follows Dev (Bajpayee), a man whose peaceful Himalayan orchard life turns unsettling when he discovers mysteriously charred trees across his estate. Despite desperate attempts to stop the strange fires, the destruction continues—forcing Dev and his family to confront hidden truths about themselves.

Anurag Kashyap, sharing the trailer on Instagram, wrote:
Jugnuma is Raam Reddy’s labour of love and a film that deeply moved me both as a filmmaker and an audience member. I am so glad that Vetri, Lijo, Raj, and Nag have joined hands to present this powerful story to the world.”

The film has already made waves internationally—premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival, winning Best Film at the Leeds International Film Festival, and receiving a Special Jury Prize at the Mumbai Film Festival.

With dialogues penned by acclaimed writer Varun Grover, the film boasts a stellar cast including Tillotama Shome, Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose, Awan Pookot, and Hiral Sidhu.

For Raam Reddy, who made his National Award-winning debut with Thithi, this moment is nothing short of surreal. “To have visionary storytellers support Jugnuma is both humbling and affirming. This film was born out of an intimate journey into magical realism, created from the heart and in isolation. To see it embraced this way makes me believe cinema is truly a dream worth fighting for,” he said.

Jugnuma (The Fable) will release in cinemas across India on September 12, 2025.
