Viewers, assemble! Marvel’s unconventional team of anti-heroes, Thunderbolts (stylized as Thunderbolts), also known as “The New Avengers,” is making its digital debut on July 1, bringing a gritty, emotional twist to the MCU lineup.

Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts features an ensemble of familiar Marvel supporting characters from past films like Black Widow and Ant-Man and the Wasp, who find themselves trapped in a deadly mission orchestrated by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
According to Marvel, the team embarks on a perilous journey that “forces them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts.” The core question driving the film: “Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart or find redemption before it’s too late?”

Critic Brian Truitt of USA TODAY gave the film a solid ★★★ out of four, praising it as one of the stronger MCU entries in recent years. He applauded its deft mix of “bleak darkness, inspired humor, and a surprisingly moving exploration of mental health.”
