Marvel’s Thunderbolts Storms Indian Box Office With ₹4 Crore Opening
May 2, 2025 | Mumbai
Marvel Studios’ latest superhero ensemble Thunderbolts thundered into Indian theatres on May 1—a day ahead of its global release—and has posted a promising ₹4 crore opening at the domestic box office.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film performed particularly well in urban centers, with the English version leading the charge at ₹2.8 crore, followed by ₹1 crore from the Hindi dub. Tamil and Telugu versions contributed modestly, adding ₹10 lakh each to the total tally.
Thunderbolts has garnered a wave of positive feedback from fans and critics alike, with many calling it a “fresh new chapter” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film’s tone, ensemble performances, and sharp writing are being hailed as a return to form for the studio.
Advance bookings reflected high anticipation, especially for 3D screenings, which were the main contributor to box office numbers.
India’s pre-Friday release window appears to have worked in Marvel’s favour, capturing the holiday crowd and early fan enthusiasm. With a long weekend ahead, box office analysts expect Thunderbolts to gain significant momentum and possibly enter double digits by Sunday.
If strong word-of-mouth continues, the film could even rival recent MCU successes like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in India.
Given the current trajectory, Thunderbolts is expected to earn ₹15–18 crore over its extended opening weekend in India. Whether it crosses ₹20 crore will depend on Saturday and Sunday’s multiplex occupancy and regional footfalls.
