Mary Kom–Onler Divorce Turns Bitter
Cheating and financial misconduct allegations fly between former couple
January 14, 2026: Indian boxing legend and politician Mary Kom has spoken out about the reasons behind her divorce from footballer Karung Onkholer (Onler), accusing him of serious financial misconduct during their 20-year marriage. The couple, who separated in 2023 and share four children, reportedly parted ways after Mary alleged that Onler took loans in her name, mortgaged her property and transferred assets without her informed consent. Mary has denied rumours of being involved with anyone else at the time of the separation, stating that she discovered financial irregularities only after suffering an injury.
Onler has strongly denied the allegations and countered them with claims of Mary Kom’s extramarital relationships during their marriage. Speaking to IANS, he alleged that Mary had affairs with a junior boxer in 2013 and later with a person associated with the Mary Kom Boxing Academy, claiming he possesses WhatsApp messages as proof. He maintained that he remained silent for years and accused Mary of using her celebrity status to shape public perception. Onler also dismissed claims that he misappropriated ₹5 crore, saying his financial condition and rented accommodation in Delhi contradict such accusations.
Expressing emotional pain, Onler said he felt “used and thrown” after years of supporting Mary’s career and helping establish her boxing academy. He also addressed allegations about his personal habits, claiming they were exaggerated and selectively leaked to the media. Mary Kom, meanwhile, reiterated on Aap Ki Adalat that she became aware of the alleged financial issues only later, believing circumstances led her to uncover the truth. The former couple, married in 2005, continue to trade accusations as their separation remains a subject of intense public scrutiny.
