“Masala Boba” Unveiled at Cannes 2025: A Bold Middle East-Taiwan Action-Comedy Set to Redefine Cross-Cultural Cinema

May 15, 2025: At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Light House Productions and Kleos Entertainment Group officially unveiled Masala Boba, an exhilarating new action-adventure comedy that promises to bridge cultures and cinematic traditions between the Middle East and Taiwan. The international feature film is slated to begin principal photography in early 2026.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Uzair Merchant, Masala Boba stands as the first-ever official co-production between the Middle East and Asia. The film blends high-energy action, sharp comedy, and rich cultural storytelling, setting the stage for an entertaining, globe-trotting narrative.

Shot in English, Masala Boba aims to captivate global audiences through its celebration of identity, mischief, and multiculturalism, all framed within an electrifying international escapade.

Cannes is the perfect platform to introduce a film like Masala Boba, which is as global in its story as it is in its making,” said Cindy Shyu, Producer at Light House Productions. “It reflects our dedication to meaningful, entertaining co-productions that celebrate cultural collaboration.”

Jennifer Jao, Vice Chairperson of the Taipei Film Commission, expressed pride in the project, stating, “Masala Boba exemplifies bold, cross-cultural storytelling. It aligns with our vision of Taipei as a global hub for creative innovation and highlights how international co-productions connect audiences through diverse voices.”

Gayathiri Guliani, Co-Producer at Kleos Entertainment Group, added, “The Middle East is a crossroads of global cultures, and this story captures that spirit with originality and heart. We’re thrilled with how Masala Boba has developed and are immensely grateful for the support from the Taipei Film Commission and Middle East Film Authorities.”

Currently in pre-production, Masala Boba sets the tone for a new era of cinematic collaboration. With its unique premise and dynamic team, the film positions itself as a symbol of creative fusion, reinforcing the growing cultural bridge between Asia and the Middle East.
