April 30, 2025: CBS has announced a major shift in its programming schedule, confirming that its much-anticipated procedural drama Einstein will not premiere as initially planned for the 2025-26 season. Instead, the network has decided to delay the show until the 2026-27 broadcast season, citing scheduling constraints as the primary reason for the move.
The delay comes as CBS finalizes its lineup for the upcoming season and realized it simply didn’t have the space to fit Einstein in among other high-profile projects. While the procedural, which stars Matthew Gray Gubler as Lewis Einstein—the great-grandson of the famed physicist Albert Einstein—has generated considerable buzz, CBS is moving ahead with other new series that are slated to premiere next season. These include DMV, a workplace comedy, and a slate of exciting spinoffs and original dramas.
Despite the setback for Einstein, CBS is forging ahead with a busy schedule for the 2025-26 season, which will include Boston Blue, a spinoff of the long-running crime drama Blue Bloods; CIA, a new series set in the same fictional universe as FBI; and Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country. Additionally, the network has renewed a dozen scripted series, ensuring a continuation of fan favorites. Reality television staples like Survivor and The Amazing Race will also remain on the network’s lineup.
Einstein follows the story of Lewis Einstein, a brilliant professor at Princeton University who becomes embroiled in solving complex cases alongside a detective played by Rosa Salazar. The series is produced by CBS Studios and created by Andy Breckman, the mind behind the beloved Monk. With Gubler and Salazar at the helm, the show is expected to bring a unique blend of intellectual intrigue and crime-solving drama.
The delay of Einstein marks the second time in recent years that CBS has adjusted the premiere timing of a high-profile series. While the wait for Einstein may frustrate fans, it speaks to the network’s strategy of managing a packed schedule with multiple exciting shows in the works.
For now, viewers will have to hold their breath a little longer before Einstein makes its debut. With CBS’s competitive slate, the wait might be well worth it when the show finally arrives in the 2026-27 season.
