During the 75th Emmys In Memoriam section, which also featured late performers including Len Goodman, Andre Braugher, Lance Reddick, Paul Reubens, Barbra Walters, Kirstie Alley, and more, Variety claimed that “Friends” actor Matthew Perry received an emotional tribute. During the segment, pop artist Charlie Puth and singer-songwriter duo The War and Treaty performed. Puth began with a rendition of his song “See You Again,” and then they gave a pared-down version of The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There for You,” the theme song from the television series Friends.
Perry died unexpectedly on October 28, 2023 at 54 years. He was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, according to law enforcement. There were no signs of foul play or drugs on the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later revealed that he died from “the acute effects of ketamine,” as per Variety. Perry was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit TV sitcom ‘Friends’. Perry’s untimely demise left his fans, family, and colleagues extremely heartbroken. Following his death, the Friends cast wrote about their experiences with Perry and how much his character, Chandler Bing, meant.
Friends actor Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribiani, posted a loving message for Perry along with a carousel of photos on Instagram. “Matthew,” he wrote. I say farewell with heavy heart. Honestly, I think that our time together was some of my best. “I miss you every day, Matty, and I am incredibly thankful for every second I had with you. There are countless instances I wish I could convey when you collaborate as closely as I did with Matthew. Here’s one of my favorites for the time being, Courteney Cox wrote.
David Schwimmer posted on Instagram, saying, “Matty, I’m grateful for the 10 amazing years of creativity and laughter. I will always remember the flawless timing and delivery of your comedy timing. A straightforward dialogue line could be bent to your whim and yet come up with something utterly unique and surprisingly funny. And you had heart. which you kindly shared with us, enabling us to make a family out of six strangers.” Additionally, he sent Matthew a photo of one of his favorite times spent with him on the “Friends” set.
“One of my favorite times spent with you is captured in this picture. I now find myself smiling and crying at the same moment.”Somewhere up there in that same white suit, with your hands in your pockets, wondering if there would be any more clouds in the sky,” he continued. “Matty, you have my undying love and I know that you are now pain-free and at peace.” I converse with you daily, and occasionally I can almost hear you ask, “Could you get any crazier?” Little brother, rest. You’ve always brightened my day..,” tweeted Jennifer Aniston.
