Matthew Rhys Joins Invincible as Show Locks in Season 5 Early
July 17, 2025: Prime Video is placing full faith in its animated superhero saga “Invincible“—renewing the show for a fifth season even before Season 4 airs in 2026. The news arrives alongside another exciting update: Emmy-winning actor Matthew Rhys has joined the voice cast for the upcoming season. While it’s still unclear whom he’ll voice, speculation is swirling that he could portray the long-awaited villain Thragg, a major antagonist from the original Image Comics series. Creator Robert Kirkman teased Thragg’s arrival in an interview with Variety, saying, “It would certainly be weird if [Thragg] didn’t show up… He’s been cast and he’s amazing.”

The early renewal reflects a trend for the show. Prime Video has consistently greenlit future seasons of “Invincible” ahead of schedule. Season 4 was ordered in July 2024—months before Season 3 even aired.
Season 3, which wrapped in March, became the platform’s most-watched animation season to date. The series also just picked up its second-ever Emmy nomination, with lead actor Steven Yeun earning recognition for outstanding voice-over performance. He’s joined by an all-star cast including Sandra Oh and J.K. Simmons.
With momentum building and fan anticipation at an all-time high, “Invincible” looks stronger than ever.
