The original footage dates back to 2012, when Ranbir appeared on Simi Garewal’s talk show. During the episode, a heartfelt video message from his mother Neetu Kapoor aired, where she delicately addressed his split with Deepika, which had occurred around three years earlier.
“He’s just had one girlfriend and that’s Deepika,” Neetu shared.
“I think maybe there was something missing in their relationship. There was something not there. And maybe he was not himself, and he needed to break off.”
Neetu further clarified that while she respects her son’s choices, she never shies away from sharing her opinion when needed.

“If I felt that the girl was not nice, I would just say in my own way. But I won’t say ‘don’t get married’ or ‘don’t be with her’. I voice my opinion, and then it’s up to him.”
Though Ranbir and Deepika parted ways in 2009, they remained cordial in public and even collaborated professionally in films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Tamasha post-breakup. Ranbir had admitted in the same interview that he still remained on good terms with his exes—though he avoided naming anyone specifically.
Where They Stand Today
Both stars have moved on to fulfilling personal lives. Ranbir Kapoor is now married to actress Alia Bhatt, and the couple shares a daughter, Raha. Deepika Padukone, on the other hand, is married to Ranveer Singh and recently welcomed a daughter named Dua.
On the professional front, Ranbir is set to star alongside Alia and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious project Love & War. Meanwhile, Deepika is currently on a hiatus from films post-motherhood and is yet to announce her comeback project.
Despite the years, Neetu Kapoor’s thoughtful reflections offer a poignant look at how even the most high-profile relationships can be deeply human beneath the glamour.
