Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is cast as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout takes on the role of Ron Weasley. HBO wrote in its announcement:

The series also features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Francesca Gardiner, who doubles as showrunner, will write and executive produce.
The series is based on JK Rowling’s seven Harry Potter novels. However, Rowling has recently faced criticism for her remarks on the transgender community.
Internet Reacts Despite Comments Lockdown
Even though HBO disabled comments on its Instagram post, fans quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms to share their thoughts. One user posted an old photo of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, writing, “I miss them.” Another commented, “Wish the kids luck. They’re about to be under a microscope the rest of their lives.”
Some fans expressed excitement, while others criticized the casting choice for Snape, calling it “atrocious.” Many urged kindness towards the young cast members as they step into such iconic roles.
The Harry Potter web series promises to retell the beloved books with a fresh perspective — and all eyes will be on how this new cast handles the magic.
