January 15, 2025: Zahan Kapoor, the grandson of Bollywood legend Shashi Kapoor, is making waves with his Netflix debut in ‘Black Warrant.’ With his understated yet impactful portrayal of ASP Sunil Kumar Gupta, Zahan is poised to carry forward the illustrious Kapoor legacy while carving his own niche in the entertainment industry.
Born in March 1992, Zahan is the son of Kunal Kapoor and Sheena Sippy, making him a part of Bollywood’s iconic Kapoor family. On his maternal side, he inherits a rich legacy, being the grandson of Ramesh Sippy, the legendary director of Sholay, and the grandnephew of British television star Felicity Kendal.

Zahan’s journey to the screen was shaped by his deep connection to theatre. He made his acting debut in 2019 with the play Pitaji Please at Mumbai’s Prithvi Theatre, where he earned critical acclaim. A trained actor and skilled polo player, Zahan has focused on meaningful roles, avoiding the glitz often associated with the Kapoor family.
In ‘Black Warrant,’ Zahan Kapoor plays rookie jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta, whose integrity is tested in the harsh realities of Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the series showcases Zahan’s compelling performance alongside a stellar cast, including Rahul Bhat, Siddhant Gupta, and Rajendra Gupta.
Known for his quiet, impactful acting style, Zahan’s portrayal of a young cop navigating moral dilemmas has drawn widespread praise from viewers and critics alike. His role highlights his commitment to delivering authentic and nuanced performances.
Unlike his famous cousins—Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Ranbir Kapoor—Zahan prefers to stay away from the spotlight and social media glamour. He has focused on his craft, evident in projects like ‘Faraaz,’ a Hansal Mehta-directed drama that marked his screen debut.
Released recently on Netflix, Black Warrant delves into the challenges faced by jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta and features gripping subplots, including the story of Charles Sobhraj, played by Sidhant Gupta. Directed by Motwane, the series has become a must-watch for its intense narrative and stellar performances.
