Mere Husband Ki Biwi Box Office Day 1: Arjun Kapoor’s Rom-Com Struggles With ₹1.5 Crore Opening

Facing stiff competition from Chhaava and Babygirl, the film’s slow start puts its future in doubt.

February 22, 2025: Bollywood’s latest romantic comedy, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, starring Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, and Bhumi Pednekar, had a disappointing start at the box office, earning only ₹1.5 crore on its opening day (February 21).

Box Office Clash & Occupancy

The film struggled against the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava, which remains the box office frontrunner, collecting ₹23 crore on Friday. It also faced competition from the Hollywood release Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman.

  • Total Day 1 Collection: ₹1.5 crore
  • Hindi Occupancy Rate: 14.86%
  • Production Budget: ₹60 crore (unconfirmed)

Despite being a light-hearted entertainer, the film’s low turnout in theaters suggests a tough road ahead for sustaining momentum in the coming weeks.

Will the Film Recover?

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film revolves around Arjun Kapoor’s character, Ankur Chaddha, caught in a hilarious love triangle between his ex-wife (Bhumi Pednekar) and his new partner (Rakul Preet Singh).

Though the cast and crew remain optimistic, the film’s poor start raises concerns about its long-term performance. If the numbers don’t pick up over the weekend, it may struggle to recover its budget.

Arjun Kapoor’s Take on the Film

Despite the underwhelming debut, Arjun Kapoor shared an upbeat message about the experience:

“Bas ab woh din door nahi hai! The entire journey from shooting the film to promotions and everything in between was an escapade! Not just coz I was working with my friends but also coz this film was just a laughter riot in itself!”

What’s Next?

With word-of-mouth and weekend footfalls crucial for its survival, Mere Husband Ki Biwi needs a strong boost in collections. Otherwise, it risks joining the list of 2025’s underperforming Bollywood releases.
