Meryl Streep, Greta Gerwig arrive in style at Cannes Film Festival
The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival commenced on Tuesday night, welcoming a bevy of celebrities on its famed red carpet. This year, the festival not only showcases global cinematic talent but also honors Hollywood icon Meryl Streep with the prestigious Palme d’Or for her significant contributions to cinema.
Meryl Streep dazzled attendees in a stunning white dress, marking a noteworthy return to Cannes after 35 years. Streep’s previous appearance was celebrated in 1989 when she received the Best Actress award for her role in ‘Evil Angels.’ This year, she adds another accolade to her extensive career, evoking a sense of nostalgia and admiration from her peers.
The red carpet shone with more stars as Greta Gerwig, this year’s jury president, and other notable jury members such as J A Bayona, Ebru Ceylan, Pierfrancesco Favino, Lily Gladstone, Eva Green, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Nadine Labaki, and Omar Sy graced the event. Juliette Binoche turned heads in a striking red dress, while Jane Fonda and Heidi Klum also made memorable appearances.
The festival opened with Quentin Dupieux’s French comedy, ‘Le Deuxieme Acte’ (‘The Second Act’), featuring stars like Lea Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon, and Raphael Quenard. The film, which explores the lives of four distinct characters, premiered out of competition and coincided with its release in French cinemas.
As the festival continues, the global film community looks forward to celebrating cinematic excellence and the distinguished careers of its attendees.
