Metro… In Dino Was Made for THIS Budget, Not ₹85 Crore
July 12, 2025: Rumors have been swirling around the budget of Anurag Basu’s latest romantic drama, Metro… In Dino, with some reports suggesting it was made on a staggering ₹85 crore budget. However, sources close to the production have now set the record straight — and the actual number is far more modest.
According to a source associated with the film, Metro… In Dino was created on a tight and efficient budget, with ₹40 crore allocated for production and an additional ₹7 crore spent on print and advertising (P&A).
“Contrary to what many might assume, Metro… In Dino was made on a fairly modest scale. It’s a film that relied not on size, but on sincerity and substance,” the source told the press.
This clarification comes as relief to many fans and analysts who feared the film’s box office performance could label it a commercial failure.
Released on June 4, the film opened with ₹3.5 crore nett at the domestic box office. According to Sacnilk, it earned ₹6 crore nett and ₹7.25 crore nett on its second and third days respectively, taking the eight-day total to ₹30 crore.
While the movie still has ground to cover to break even, the actual budget being ₹47 crore — not ₹85 crore — means it stands a better chance of recovering costs through theatrical run, digital rights, and satellite deals.
Metro… In Dino is a musical romance drama that delves into bittersweet modern-day relationships. The film features an impressive ensemble cast including:
It is a spiritual follow-up to Basu’s critically acclaimed 2007 film Life in a… Metro. Notably, Konkona Sen Sharma is the only actor to appear in both films.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions Pvt Ltd, the film blends emotion, music, and storytelling in a way that Basu’s fans have come to expect.
