May 8, 2025: American actor and model Michael Pitt, widely recognized for his roles in Boardwalk Empire, The Dreamers, and Funny Games, has been indicted on nine criminal charges following accusations of serious assault and abuse.
A grand jury in Brooklyn, New York, has charged the 44-year-old actor with first-degree sexual assault, strangulation, and attacking the alleged victim with a cinder block and a piece of lumber. The incidents are said to have occurred between April 2020 and August 2021 at his home.

Pitt was arrested on May 2, 2025, and appeared before the court on the same day. His legal team, led by attorney Jason Goldman, strongly denies the allegations. Goldman claims that they have exonerating evidence and anticipate the charges will be dismissed. He argued that the claims are suspiciously raised years after the supposed incidents, during a time when Pitt and the alleged victim were in a consensual relationship.
The indictment includes accusations of forcible touching, forced oral sex, physical assault with a wooden object, and an attempted strangulation. It remains unclear whether the same person is involved in all the incidents, as the alleged victim’s name has not been disclosed in court documents.
Pitt faces several charges, including first- and third-degree criminal sexual acts, multiple counts of sexual abuse and assault, as well as second-degree strangulation. If convicted of the most serious charge of first-degree criminal sexual abuse, Pitt could face up to 25 years in prison.
Pitt pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $100,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 17, 2025.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office has not provided any additional comment beyond the indictment.
