Mika Singh Offers Land for Stray Dogs
Singer appeals to Supreme Court, pledges 10 acres for canine welfare
January 11, 2026: Punjabi singer and actor Mika Singh has made an emotional appeal to the Supreme Court amid the ongoing debate on stray dog management, pledging to donate 10 acres of land for their welfare. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mika urged the apex court to avoid any measures that could harm street dogs, expressing concern over fears of a judicial crackdown. He said his appeal was rooted in compassion and a desire to protect the well-being of stray canines across the country.
Reaffirming his long-standing support for animal rights, Mika announced his readiness to offer land exclusively for shelters and care facilities for dogs. He said the proposed space could be used for housing, treatment, and overall welfare of strays, while also stressing the need for adequate manpower and resources to ensure proper care. His public commitment has drawn attention as a rare instance of a celebrity offering tangible support amid the legal and civic discourse on the issue.
The Supreme Court, meanwhile, has clarified that it has not ordered the blanket removal of street dogs. A special three-judge bench reiterated that the focus remains on implementing the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, which promote humane methods such as sterilisation, vaccination, and returning dogs to their original territories. While acknowledging public concern over rising dog-bite incidents, the court underlined that effective enforcement by local authorities is key to balancing human safety and animal welfare.
