Miley Cyrus Regains Rights to Perform Hannah Montana Hits, Hints at Possible Revival

After years of restrictions, Miley Cyrus can finally sing her iconic Hannah Montana songs again—raising hopes for a nostalgic return of the beloved Disney pop star.

Could a Hannah Montana (Miley’s Version) be on the horizon? Fans of the Disney Channel phenomenon now have reason to hope.

Pop superstar Miley Cyrus has revealed that she was previously barred from performing music from her Hannah Montana days after parting ways with Disney. However, that restriction has finally been lifted—and the 32-year-old singer isn’t ruling out a revival.

“After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music,” Cyrus said on the Every Single Album podcast. While she clarified that she wasn’t actively seeking to perform those tracks during her transition into more mature music—“performing ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’ wouldn’t have really made sense,” she joked—she still found it painful to be silenced on songs that were such a major part of her journey.

“It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn’t allowed to sing them,” she added.

But that changed after a career-defining moment in August 2024, when Miley was named a Disney Legend, the youngest person ever to receive the honor. As part of that recognition, she says, she now has permission to perform her Hannah Montana songs again.

“After being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool,” Cyrus said with a smile, hinting at a possible nostalgic comeback.

Cyrus shot to stardom as the titular character in Hannah Montana, which premiered on Disney Channel in 2006 and ran for four seasons until 2011. The show followed Miley Stewart, a seemingly normal teen who lived a secret double life as a global pop star. Her real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also starred in the series alongside Jason Earles, Emily Osment, and Mitchel Musso.

The Hannah Montana franchise was a cultural juggernaut—spawning albums, concert tours, merchandise, and a successful film, Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009). Iconic songs like “The Best of Both Worlds,” “Nobody’s Perfect,” “If We Were a Movie,” and “Rockstar” became anthems for an entire generation of Disney fans.

During her Disney Legend acceptance speech at the 2024 D23 Expo in Anaheim, Cyrus got visibly emotional. “A little bit of everything has changed… but at the same time, nothing has changed at all,” she said. “I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana.”

She dedicated the award to “Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans,” adding with a smile, “To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.’

Cyrus has previously entertained the idea of reviving the character. In a 2020 interview on Carolina with Greg T in the Morning, she joked about bringing the iconic blonde wig out of storage. “She’s just in storage collecting dust, and I’m ready to whip her out… The opportunity will present itself. I definitely would like to resurrect her at some point,” she said, noting, “She needs a big makeover because she’s kinda stuck in 2008.”

Whether Miley’s newfound freedom to perform Hannah’s music results in a concert, special performance, or even a reboot remains to be seen. But one thing is clear—fans haven’t seen the last of The Best of Both Worlds.
