Mindy Kaling Expresses Gratitude After Receiving Star On ‘Hollywood Walk Of Fame’

February 20, 2025: Mindy Kaling, the actress, producer, and writer, was recently honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing her remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry. The ceremony, which took place on Thursday, was attended by Kaling’s close friends, family, and peers, including her ex-boyfriend BJ Novak.

Kaling shared her joy and gratitude on Instagram, posting several photos from the event. She wrote, “Yesterday was one of the most special days of my life! My dearest friends and family surrounded me for the surreal and humbling experience of receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

During the ceremony, Novak delivered a heartfelt speech, praising Kaling for her numerous achievements, including her work as a showrunner, her role as a mother, and her lasting friendship. Kaling expressed her thanks, writing, “@bjnovak gave such a beautiful speech.”

In a touching moment, Kaling revealed that she was the first South Asian woman to receive a star on the Walk of Fame, a milestone that left her feeling both humbled and proud. “I am so proud to be South Asian,” Kaling said, adding, “I want to make my community proud of everything I do but more importantly, I want to help usher in the next generation of South Asian stars – who are already making a huge impact across the world.”

Though Kaling’s three children—Katherine Swati (7), Anne (1), and Spencer Avu (4)—were not present at the ceremony, Novak’s role as their godparent has piqued the curiosity of fans about their unique family dynamic. During her speech, Kaling praised Novak, saying, “He’s such an important and integral part of my family… Sometimes I forget that the reason that I know him is because we worked together professionally.”

Kaling, 45, and Novak, also 45, met in 2004 on the set of The Office and dated intermittently until 2007. Despite their past romance, the two have remained close friends, and Novak has embraced his role as a godparent to Kaling’s children. However, Kaling has always been private about the identity of her children’s father, stating that she will discuss it with them when the time is right.
