Mission: Impossible Hits a Roadblock in India with 60% Drop on First Monday

May 20, 2025: Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is proving to be a solid performer at the Indian box office despite a steeper-than-expected drop on its first Monday. Released on Saturday, May 17, the film faced a truncated opening weekend but still managed to rake in ₹35.5 crores in just two days, powered by strong word-of-mouth and Cruise’s enduring fan base.

While the film opened impressively—collecting ₹17.5 crores on Day 1 and ₹18 crores on Day 2—it stumbled slightly on Day 3. Monday’s collections are estimated at ₹7 crores, a sharp 60% drop from the opening day, bringing the 3-day total to ₹42.5 crores (net).

Day-Wise Box Office Breakdown (India):

  • Day 1 (Saturday): ₹17.50 crores
  • Day 2 (Sunday): ₹18 crores
  • Day 3 (Monday): ₹7 crores
  • Total: ₹42.50 crores (Net)

Though the Monday numbers didn’t meet expectations—industry insiders hoped for at least ₹9–10 crores—the film still holds strong considering the reduced show count and weekday effect. Trade analysts believe that if the film holds its ground during the weekdays, it could comfortably cross ₹60 crores by the end of its first week.

Climbing Cruise’s India Chart

The strong start positions The Final Reckoning to become Tom Cruise’s 4th highest-grossing film in India. It is currently trailing just behind Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (₹46 crores), which it is expected to surpass on Day 4.

Here’s a look at Cruise’s top India box office grossers (net collections):

  1. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One – ₹120 crores
  2. Mission: Impossible – Fallout – ₹77 crores
  3. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – ₹54 crores
  4. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – ₹46 crores
  5. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – ₹42.50 crores (3 days)
  6. Top Gun: Maverick – ₹35 crores

Despite the Monday dip, The Final Reckoning remains one of the most anticipated and watched Hollywood releases of the year in India. The film’s fate over the weekdays will determine if it can push beyond the ₹75 crore mark and become Cruise’s third-highest Indian grosser.
