May 25, 2025: As Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theaters, fans of the action-packed franchise are questioning whether this could truly mark the end of Ethan Hunt’s journey. But according to the cast — and true to the spirit of Mission: Impossiblenothing is ever final.

The iconic series, which first launched in 1996 with Tom Cruise as the daring secret agent Ethan Hunt, has thrilled audiences with every installment, largely thanks to Cruise’s death-defying stunts and high-octane action.

🎭 Cast Weighs In: “Never Say Never”

Angela Bassett, who plays CIA director Erika Sloane, told PEOPLE,

“With Mr. Cruise, you can never count him down or out. He’s always up for an amazing adventure and to give the audience exactly what they’re craving. I would never assume [it’s the end].”

Simon Pegg, a franchise mainstay since 2006 as tech genius Benji Dunn, echoed similar sentiments:

“Never say never… I don’t think Tom likes the idea of finality. Even if there isn’t anything that comes after, you leave the theater feeling like, ‘Maybe there’s more.’”

🤐 Cruise Keeps It Cryptic

At the Cannes Film Festival, Cruise skillfully dodged questions about the franchise’s future.

“Just let us show the movie tonight,” he said. “This is like 30 years’ culmination of this… I’d rather people just see it and enjoy.”

While Cruise didn’t rule out a continuation, he focused on celebrating what could be a cinematic milestone in a franchise that has thrilled audiences for nearly three decades.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is now playing in theaters worldwide, and while the title hints at a conclusion, fans know better than to underestimate Ethan Hunt — or Tom Cruise.
