December 31, 2024: Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has emerged as a box office winner in India, overcoming an underwhelming start to make impressive strides. After wrapping up its second weekend, the film stands tall with a total collection of ₹90.35 crore, inching closer to the coveted ₹100 crore club.
The prequel to The Lion King (2019) opened with high expectations, given the monumental success of its predecessor, which earned ₹150.09 crore in India. However, Mufasa: The Lion King initially struggled but soon capitalized on the Christmas and New Year holidays to boost its numbers.
With an impressive ₹27.85 crore haul during the second weekend, the film displayed strong retention despite weekday dips.
The steady growth indicates Mufasa: The Lion King is on track to surpass ₹100 crore during the ongoing festive period. Industry experts predict a significant surge as the New Year celebrations further boost footfalls in cinemas.
