Salim Merchant’s emotional appeal: “Islam doesn’t teach this”

In a heartfelt video posted online, Salim Merchant said:

“The people who were killed were innocent Hindus. Are their killers Muslims? No — they are terrorists. Because Islam doesn’t preach this. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 256 of the Quran, it is written: There is no compulsion in religion.

Visibly shaken, he added:

“As a Muslim, mujhe sharam aa rahi hai. These killings are not just horrifying — they are a betrayal of humanity. When will this stop? Kashmir was beginning to breathe peacefully again, and now this?”

The video quickly went viral, amassing thousands of shares across social platforms.

The Pahalgam Massacre: A dark day in the Valley

The incident, now referred to as the Pahalgam Massacre, occurred on April 22, when terrorists opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran meadow, just 5 km from the popular hill station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Reports confirm the attackers singled out Hindus, making it one of the most chilling terror strikes in the region in recent years.

The film fraternity, sports icons, and political leaders continue to voice their condemnation, united in grief and anger over the tragedy.
