The veteran actor criticises Kapil Sharma’s behaviour and calls his show “obscene” for relying on crass humour.
December 15, 2024: Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna has expressed his disappointment with comedian Kapil Sharma, criticising both his behaviour and the content of The Kapil Sharma Show. Speaking on Siddharth Kannan’s podcast, Khanna revealed that Sharma ignored him for 10 minutes at an award function and slammed the show for its “below-the-belt jokes” and “obscene” humour.

Kapil Sharma Ignored Mukesh Khanna
Khanna shared an incident where he sat next to Kapil Sharma at an award function but was completely ignored. “Even if we haven’t worked together, it’s a gesture to acknowledge someone. I’ve never worked with Amitabh Bachchan, yet when I meet him, I ask, ‘Kaise hain aap sir?’ Kapil sat next to me for ten minutes but didn’t even say hello. It’s about basic courtesy,” Khanna remarked.
Criticism of The Kapil Sharma Show
Khanna also explained why he refused to appear on Sharma’s popular comedy show. The actor, known for his portrayal of Bhishma Pitamah in Mahabharat, described the show as overly reliant on “ashlilta (obscenity)” and double-meaning jokes.
Recalling a specific promo featuring Ramayan actor Arun Govil, Khanna said, “Kapil Sharma asked a crass question, ‘Ram bhi VIP underwear pehenta hai (Even Lord Ram wears VIP brand underwear).’ If I were there, I would have lost it. You don’t ask such shoddy questions to someone with such a revered image.”
Khanna emphasized that while the show may make people laugh, it lacks “shalinta (decency)” and relies on humor that crosses acceptable boundaries.
“Mahabharat Without Bhishma?”
Khanna also addressed a statement made by fellow Mahabharat cast member Gajendra Singh Chauhan, who said the show needed people with a “sense of humor.” Taking a dig, Khanna responded, “When cricketers appear on the show, are they asked if they have a sense of humor? They are treated like VIPs.”
The actor further criticized Kapil Sharma’s cross-dressing antics on the show, saying, “I still make fun of him because I can’t do it.”
Khanna’s remarks underline his dissatisfaction with contemporary comedy and his reluctance to compromise on his principles for popularity.
