While praising Allu Arjun’s potential as Shaktimaan, Mukesh Khanna shares mixed feelings about Pushpa 2, criticizing its portrayal of red sanders smuggling.
December 14, 2024: Mukesh Khanna, the iconic actor who played the beloved superhero Shaktimaan, has made his preference clear for the next actor to don the Shaktimaan mantle: Allu Arjun. While he clarified that he is not making any commitments, he expressed that he believes the Pushpa 2: The Rule star would be a perfect fit for the role.
Mukesh Khanna on Allu Arjun as Shaktimaan
In a recently uploaded YouTube video, Mukesh Khanna shared his thoughts on Allu Arjun potentially playing Shaktimaan in a future project. He stated, “I am not committing to anything, but I think he (Allu Arjun) can be Shaktimaan. He has good looks and height, but they (Pushpa makers) have turned him into a villain. He would suit the role of Shaktimaan.”
While Khanna hasn’t made any official declaration, his praise for Arjun’s qualities suggests he sees the Pushpa 2 star as a suitable choice for the superhero role.

Mukesh Khanna on Pushpa 2: The Rule
Mukesh Khanna also took time to share his thoughts on Pushpa 2: The Rule. Despite expressing admiration for the film’s dedication and effort, he raised concerns about its depiction of red sanders smuggling. Khanna said, “It won’t be achieved by just throwing around money. You can see how hard they worked to make it. Every frame speaks of how they did well. When you have conviction in yourself, you convince the audience.”
However, he took issue with the film’s glamorization of smuggling, adding, “They have glamorized smuggling sandalwood. What is the message you want to give? Do you want to show people they can smuggle and even beat the police? I want to tell filmmakers from the south not to make such films just to score a hit.”
Khanna Critiques Bollywood Filmmaking
In the same video, Mukesh Khanna also took a jab at the disparity in Bollywood filmmaking. He urged Bollywood filmmakers to take notes from their South Indian counterparts, emphasizing how southern films often have more balanced budgets. Khanna pointed out that while heroes in Bollywood often take a huge share of the budget, southern films allocate funds more equitably. He said, “In the south, the hero doesn’t pocket all the budget for the film, they plan it well. But here, ₹60 crore of a ₹150 crore film is handed to the hero. Even after three flops, heroes here take ₹90 crore.”
Khanna suggested that filmmakers should invest more in scripts and writers rather than inflating star salaries.
Pushpa 2’s Massive Success
Pushpa 2: The Rule, released on December 5 with paid previews on December 4, has become a massive hit. The film crossed the ₹1000 crore mark worldwide in just a week of its release, showcasing its popularity both domestically and internationally.
