Mumbai Police Detain One Suspect For Questioning In Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Incident

January 17, 2025: Mumbai Police have made significant progress in the investigation into the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was stabbed at his Bandra residence early Thursday morning. On Friday, the police detained one individual in connection with the attack. The suspect has been brought to the Bandra police station for further questioning.

In addition to the arrest, police have recovered a portion of the blade that was extracted from Saif’s back during surgery, though efforts to locate and retrieve the remaining part of the blade are ongoing. Authorities also revealed that the accused was last seen near Bandra railway station and are continuing to search for him in areas such as Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar. Police believe the attacker may have taken the first local train towards these locations following the incident.

The attack occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday when the intruder confronted the actor’s maid. Saif attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but the confrontation escalated into violence. The actor sustained several stab wounds, including a serious injury to his thoracic spinal cord. Saif was quickly taken to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors performed a successful surgery to remove a 2.5-inch knife lodged in his spine and to repair leaking spinal fluid. Saif is reported to be “out of danger,” but doctors continue to monitor his recovery closely in the ICU.

The police have registered an FIR based on the maid’s complaint, which alleges that the attacker demanded one crore rupees. According to her statement, the attacker was armed with a hexa blade and a wooden object and attacked her before confronting Saif. The maid described the assailant as seeking money, stating he demanded “one crore.” The police have also stated that the intruder used a fire escape staircase to enter the actor’s residence, and they believe the attack was an attempted robbery.

Mumbai Police have formed 20 teams to investigate the incident and are focused on capturing the assailant. DCP Dixit Gedam confirmed that a “robbery attempt” was suspected in the attack.
