Naga Vamsi Blames YRF For Jr NTR’s War 2 Failure

Telugu producer Naga Vamsi admits that he and Jr NTR put their complete faith in YRF, but the high-budget film failed to meet expectations. He stresses the “mistake is on their side” as he faced the brunt of trolling for the Hrithik Roshan-starrer’s disappointing box office run.

October 22, 2025: The grand Bollywood debut of Telugu superstar Jr NTR alongside Hrithik Roshan in the spy-thriller War 2 was poised to be an all-time blockbuster, but the film ultimately fizzled out at the box office, incurring heavy losses for many involved. Now, Telugu distributor and producer Naga Vamsi, who acquired the film’s regional rights, has finally opened up about the monumental disappointment, placing the blame squarely on the film’s producers, Yash Raj Films (YRF).

Speaking candidly on the Sithara Entertainments YouTube channel during the promotions for his upcoming film Mass Jathara, Vamsi revealed that both he and Jr NTR had put their complete faith in the production house, only to be let down spectacularly.

“Mistakes do happen. Everyone makes mistakes at some point in time,” Vamsi stated. “Aditya Chopra garu is the biggest producer in Indian cinema. NTR anna and I trusted YRF blindly, but it misfired.

‘The Mistake is On Their Side’

Vamsi, who is the head of Sithara Entertainments, shouldered the criticism and trolling that followed the film’s underperformance in the Telugu states. The movie, which opened to a strong ₹52 crore on Day 1, saw its momentum collapse quickly, ultimately collecting only ₹236.55 crore net in India against a reported budget of ₹400 crore. The Telugu version, in particular, suffered significant losses.

Addressing the online backlash, Vamsi remarked, “The mistake is on their side, but we faced the heat (laughs). We didn’t make the film. I’m happy that the trolling we faced wasn’t for a film made by us.”

This statement confirms the deep disappointment surrounding the sixth installment of the YRF Spy Universe, which starred Jr NTR as Agent Vikram in his first major Hindi-language role. The distributor’s admission of ‘blind trust’ highlights the shock felt across the industry and among fans that such a highly-anticipated cross-industry collaboration failed to deliver a hit.

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra, clashed at the box office with Rajinikanth’s Coolie. The film features Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, and Ashutosh Rana.

Upcoming Project: Naga Vamsi is now focusing on his next venture, Mass Jathara, starring Ravi Teja and Sreeleela, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 31.
