Nandamuri Balakrishna Fans Behead Goats During ‘Daaku Maharaaj’ Release, Case Registered

January 18, 2025: Tirupati Police have registered a case against a group of fans of actor Nandamuri Balakrishna after a goat was sacrificed outside Pratap Theatre in Tata Nagar, Tirupati, to celebrate the release of his film Daaku Maharaaj. The incident, which was captured on video, has sparked widespread outrage on social media.

The complaint was filed by PETA India, leading to an FIR against five individuals. They face charges under various sections, including Section 325 and 270 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Andhra Pradesh Animals and Birds Sacrifices (Prohibition) Act, 1950, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The charges specifically relate to the prohibition of animal sacrifice in public places and religious settings, as well as cruelty toward animals.

According to PETA India, animal sacrifice is banned under the Andhra Pradesh Animals and Birds Sacrifices Act, which prohibits the public or religious sacrifice of animals. Violations can lead to legal penalties.

Tirupati DSP Venkata Narayana confirmed the arrest of five individuals involved in the incident and assured that others responsible would also be identified soon. The police were alerted after the incident went viral on social media platforms. DSP Narayana added that the case is under investigation, and further action is being taken.

In addition to the legal actions, this incident highlights the ongoing issue of animal sacrifices during film promotions, which has drawn criticism from animal rights groups. Similar incidents were reported last year during the release of Jr. NTR’s film Devara: Part 1.

Animal slaughter is allowed only in licensed slaughterhouses, as per the Supreme Court’s ruling, and authorities have been urged to enforce compliance with these regulations to prevent such incidents.
