Nargis Fakhri Recalls Nervous Beginnings of Dance Journey with ‘Rockstar’

In honor of World Dance Day, Bollywood luminary Nargis Fakhri recently delved into the archives of memory, revisiting her debut dance performance in the movie ‘Rockstar’ alongside Ranbir Kapoor. Fakhri, celebrated for her electrifying dance sequences, reflected on the transformative power of dance in her life. “Dance, for me, is a sublime form of expression on screen. It’s akin to meditation; when I’m dancing, all my stress dissipates,” she shared, emphasizing her admiration for choreographic artistry. Her journey into the realm of dance commenced with ‘Rockstar,’ a moment she confessed was fraught with nervous energy on set.

However, as the music enveloped her, apprehensions dissolved, giving way to an exhilarating embrace of rhythm. Recalling the pivotal moment, Fakhri reminisced, “My maiden dance venture on screen was with ‘Rockstar,’ an experience etched in my memory. I was a bundle of nerves initially, but once the music began, I surrendered to the beat. It was a thrilling milestone, and I yearn to relive it on screen.” Directed by Imtiaz Ali and released in 2011, ‘Rockstar’ follows the journey of Janardhan Jakhar (played by Kapoor), a Delhi youth aspiring to emulate his rockstar idol, Jim Morrison.

Fakhri portrays Heer Kaul, Jakhar’s love interest, in a narrative traversing love, anguish, and artistic pursuit. Renowned for its soul-stirring soundtrack by A R Rahman, featuring hits like ‘Sadda Haq’ and ‘Nadaan Parindey,’ the film garnered accolades for its performances and narrative depth. As Fakhri fondly reminisces her debut dance, fans eagerly anticipate her future endeavors, with her recent appearance in ‘Tatlubaaz’ marking another milestone in her cinematic journey.
