December 3, 2024: Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in the United States on charges of allegedly killing her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, and his female friend, Anastasia Star Ettienne, in a fire. The incident occurred in Queens, New York, where Aliya is accused of setting fire to a two-story garage, resulting in a deadly inferno.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of Jacobs and Ettienne, who reportedly succumbed to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, “This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno.”
Aliya was arrested and has been denied bail in Criminal Court. Reports suggest the fire was deliberately set following a tumultuous and reportedly abusive relationship between Aliya and Edward Jacobs.
While Nargis Fakhri has not yet commented publicly on the incident, her mother has come to Aliya’s defense, stating, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.”
However, Edward Jacobs' mother revealed that the couple had ended their relationship a year ago, but Aliya allegedly continued to pursue him. She also clarified that her son and Ettienne “were not lovers, but friends.”
A witness at the scene claimed that Anastasia initially escaped the burning building but went back inside to save Jacobs. The witness added, “It was an abusive relationship. [Aliya] had told everyone before that she was going to burn his house down, that she was going to kill him. We just laughed it off.”
Aliya Fakhri is now facing serious legal charges as investigations continue. The case has drawn attention to the toxic dynamics of abusive relationships and their devastating consequences. Meanwhile, the incident has placed Nargis Fakhri and her family in the public spotlight as they grapple with the aftermath of this tragedy.
