Nayanthara Reveals an Ex Asked Her to Quit Acting; Nagarjuna Calls it a ‘Turbulent Time’

November 19, 2024: Nayanthara Opens Up About Past Relationships and Career Struggles in ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’

Celebrated actress Nayanthara has shared insights into her past relationships and personal struggles in her recently released OTT documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. Married to filmmaker Vignesh Shivan since 2022, Nayanthara opened up about her journey of heartbreak, resilience, and love, offering viewers a glimpse of her experiences and lessons learned.

A Relationship That Almost Ended Her Career

Nayanthara candidly revealed that one of her ex-boyfriends pressured her to leave the film industry for the sake of their relationship. Reflecting on her first relationship, she said:

“My first relationship was purely based on trust — the trust that the other person is in love with you.”

The actress was previously linked with actor Silambarasan TR during the filming of his directorial debut, Vallavan. However, the relationship ended following a scandal involving leaked private photos.

Nagarjuna Recalls Nayanthara’s Difficult Phase

Veteran actor Nagarjuna, who worked with her during her breakup phase on Boss, recalled the emotional turmoil she went through:

“It was a turbulent time in her life. We dreaded the moment her phone rang because it would immediately upset her. She became a different person.”

Relationship with Prabhu Deva

Nayanthara’s personal life made headlines again when she dated director-choreographer Prabhu Deva, with whom she collaborated on Villu. She revealed that Prabhu Deva asked her to quit acting, and she agreed under pressure. However, complications in his marital life and media scrutiny led to the end of their relationship. She took a two-year hiatus from acting to process the events.

“It wasn’t like I had an option. I was told to leave cinema, and I agreed,” she shared.

Fighting Back: Return to Acting

Despite the online scrutiny and media narratives, Nayanthara expressed her frustration over how only she was questioned:

“Just because I never openly addressed my past, people started writing their own stories. They began assuming the worst. How come none of the boys were ever asked anything?”

Her passion for acting was reignited when Nagarjuna offered her a role after her hiatus. This opportunity marked her comeback in the industry.

Finding Love with Vignesh Shivan

Nayanthara found love again while working with director Vignesh Shivan on Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in 2015. The two tied the knot in 2022 and welcomed twin boys, Uyir and Ulag, through surrogacy. Reflecting on her journey, Nayanthara credits Vignesh for bringing stability and joy into her life.

A Stellar Career

Nayanthara recently made her Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Jawan, solidifying her status as one of Indian cinema’s leading ladies.
