NCW Condemns Inappropriate Remarks In ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy

March 7, 2025: The ongoing controversy surrounding the popular show India’s Got Latent has intensified following criticism of inappropriate remarks made by YouTubers and social media influencers, including Ashish Chanchlani, Ranveer Allahbadia, and others, during an episode. The remarks, which were deemed vulgar and offensive, led to public outrage on social media, prompting both legal and social action.

On March 6, key individuals involved in the controversy appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW). NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar condemned the language used by the influencers during the episode, calling it “absolutely indecent” and stating that such language would not be accepted by the Commission or the public. In response to the growing outrage, the Commission swiftly issued notices to those involved, and the influencers were summoned to provide their statements.

During the appearance, the accused influencers expressed regret over their actions. Rahatkar stated, “When they came yesterday, they expressed regret over their words in the show. They also said that they should not use such words and that they made a mistake…All of them presented apologies before the Commission.” The influencers also assured the Commission that they would be more mindful of their language in the future, stating this incident would be the “first and last time” they made such mistakes. Ranveer Allahbadia, who received significant backlash for his comments, acknowledged that his words could not be taken back, but emphasized his commitment to speaking with greater respect towards women in the future.

This controversy has also sparked legal consequences. On February 10, the Guwahati Police filed an FIR against several influencers, including Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia, accusing them of violating the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. The Guwahati Crime Branch is investigating the matter, with charges stemming from the vulgar and sexually explicit content featured in the episode of India’s Got Latent.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Ranveer Allahbadia appeared before the Guwahati Police Commissionerate on March 7. Earlier, Ashish Chanchlani had also appeared at the Crime Branch office with his lawyer on February 27. Despite the criticism and the ongoing legal proceedings, both Chanchlani and Allahbadia have publicly apologized for their remarks. Chanchlani shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking his fans for their support and acknowledging the difficult times he is facing. “I know, maine aapke messages padhe hain, chal raha hai. Lad lenge situation se, dekhe hain aise tough times, isse bhi kuch naya seekh lenge,” he said, adding that he would return to content creation with renewed focus.

Meanwhile, Allahbadia addressed his apology on social media as well, reiterating his commitment to making more responsible choices in the future. “What I said cannot be taken back, but I will try to be mindful of my words in shows and speak of women’s respect,” he said, expressing his resolve to use his platform more responsibly.

In a significant development earlier this week, the Supreme Court allowed Ranveer Allahbadia to resume his podcast, The Ranveer Show, but with specific conditions regarding maintaining decency and morality standards. This marks a major turning point in the ongoing controversy as the influencers involved try to rebuild their image and demonstrate accountability.

As the legal proceedings continue, the situation remains dynamic, and it is clear that the India’s Got Latent controversy has prompted a wider discussion about the responsibility of social media influencers and content creators in maintaining appropriate conduct.
