NCW Reschedules Hearing for Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and Others in ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy

Accused Cite Safety Concerns and Travel Commitments; New Dates Announced

Mumbai, February 17: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued new hearing dates for Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija, Ashish Chanchlani, and others after they failed to appear in person for questioning regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the show India’s Got Latent.

Several of the individuals summoned cited concerns about personal safety, pre-scheduled foreign travel, and other logistical challenges as reasons for their absence from the February 17 hearing. Acknowledging their requests, the NCW has provided revised hearing dates to ensure compliance with the summons.

Revised Hearing Dates and Accused Statements

  • Ranveer Allahbadia has claimed he is receiving death threats and requested a delay of three weeks. The NCW has rescheduled his hearing for March 6.
  • Apoorva Mukhija expressed safety concerns and requested a virtual appearance, stating she would attend in person when the situation stabilizes. Her hearing is now on March 6.
  • Samay Raina, currently in the US for a pre-planned tour, has assured the Commission that he will attend a hearing upon returning to India. His hearing is now scheduled for March 11.
  • Jaspreet Singh, currently on tour in Paris, has informed the NCW that he will return to India by March 10 and cooperate with the inquiry. His hearing is set for March 11.
  • Ashish Chanchlani, who was reportedly unwell, did not attend in person but was represented by his advocate. The NCW has rescheduled his hearing for March 6.
  • Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra, the show’s producer and another key figure, have not responded to the Commission’s notice. The NCW has strongly condemned their lack of cooperation and has issued a resummon for March 6.
  • Balraj Ghai, currently outside India, has assured the NCW that he will respond upon his return. His hearing is scheduled for March 11.

The NCW has urged all summoned individuals to comply with the proceedings and appear as instructed.

Controversy Over Vulgar Remarks

The India’s Got Latent controversy erupted after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment on the show. During an episode, he asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents… or join in once and stop it forever?”

Following widespread backlash, the NCW summoned Allahbadia, Raina, and others for questioning. The Commission emphasized that such offensive remarks violate basic dignity and respect, especially in a society that upholds gender equality.

Formal Complaints and Legal Action

In addition to the NCW’s intervention, a formal complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission. The complaint alleges that India’s Got Latent deliberately used obscene and abusive language to attract online viewership and financial gains.

The complainant has demanded strict action against those involved, particularly regarding the remarks made by Allahbadia and Raina.

What’s Next?

With the revised hearing dates now in place, all eyes are on how the accused will respond. The NCW has made it clear that non-compliance will not be tolerated, and failure to appear could lead to stricter action against those involved in the controversy.
